Cold Weather/Absences

As the forecast is predicting an exceptionally cold spell, please can we ask that all children bring a warm coat and a hat to school over the next few weeks.  Our playground can be very cold at times.

We are hoping that the weather will not be disruptive to travel but given the number of absences due to illness in recent weeks, please can we also ask that every effort is made to get the children to school every day.  We are trying very hard to make up for lost time.

Open Afternoon

We are now enrolling for September 2018 and are holding our Open Afternoon on Friday 2nd March from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome...those who have already enrolled and those who are still considering the choices for their children. Our school is a warm and friendly place...we are always happy to answer questions and show off what we do.

Green Flag Visit

We wish 5th and 6th Class luck on Monday as we will be visited by a representative from 'An Taisce' as part of our Green Flag work.  As you know, we are working on our 5th flag - Biodiversity and the children have worked hard on this theme for the past 18 months.  We will find out in May if we have been successful.

World Book Day

We will be celebrating World Book Day in school on March 1st.  Please take time to ask the children all about it.

Book Fair

To coincide with World Book Day, the Book Fair will be in school from Thursday 1st March.  There is always a great selection of books on offer and school will receive a number of free books.

Swimming

Thank you for your support of our swimming lessons.  We would like to thank Alan Mahon for his help with supervision.  Our last lesson will be on Wednesday 28th February.  All children completed swimming tests.

Drama

We are currently working with Zara Holmes on a weekly basis.  The children have been taking part in Speech and Drama lessons and hope to hold a small showcase at the end of these lessons.  More details to follow.

Playground Development

We are in the process of developing the grassy area at the back of our playground.  As you can imagine, this is a very expensive project and all of our recent and future fundraising money will be used for this.

Happy New Year

7/1/2018

Happy New Year - we hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas holiday. We are looking forward to seeing the children back at school tomorrow morning and hearing what Santa brought.

We shared this with you last year but we feel it is appropriate to post it again. In an effort to keep coughs, colds and flu at bay, please would you remind the children of the importance of washing their hands regularly and covering coughs?

We will also talk to the children about this in school. It might also be helpful to send a pocket sized packet of tissues and a small bottle of hand gel with the older children (as we did during the Swine Flu outbreak).

Although we are very keen that children are not absent from school, please don't send children to school if they are very unwell and have flu symptoms.

Christmas Party

Thank you so very much to the very hardworking members of our P.T.A. who organised this year's Christmas party.  A huge amount of work, effort and time went into arranging everything so we thank them very much.

Carol Service

Thank you also for your support of this year's Carol Service.  We hope you enjoyed the children's singing and dancing - they put a lot of effort into getting this performance ready for you.  As always thank you to those parents who provided food and sweets for the evening.  We also appreciate the help of those parents who served tea and the refreshments in school after the service and also those who helped to tidy up afterwards.

Copies of the show DVD are available from school for a donation of €5 to school funds.  Our thanks to Ezra and Muriel for their help with recording.

Dates

School will close for Christmas on Friday 22nd December and will open again on Monday 8th January.

Attendance

Our current attendance is 98.5% which is excellent!  Thank you for ensuring that the children are in school regularly.  We especially appreciate the effort made recently when the weather was poor - we hope the delayed roll call in frosty mornings has been helpful.

Facebook Page

Don't forget to check our Facebook page from time to time.  It often has updates which aren't always posted here.

Christmas Wishes

The staff would like to thank you for all your support and help this term and we wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.  We look forward to welcoming you all back in 2018.

Co Donegal Schools' Service

5th Class and 6th Class enjoyed their outing to Ramelton Presbyterian Church on Thursday 5th where they joined with over 600 other children from the other 30 schools in Donegal which are under Church of Ireland or Presbyterian management.  We say well done to Bobbie Griffith for reading a 'Please' prayer on behalf of our school.

Our annual sponsored Unihoc will take place at 12.30 p.m. on Friday 20th October.  Our thanks as always to Muriel and Ezra and if you can help in any way, please let us know.

Cheerios Breakfast Morning

Although we are always trying hard to raise funds for ourselves, we believe that it is important to support other causes from time to time.  We will be holding our 'Cheerios Breakfast Together' morning on Wednesday 18th October.  Cereal and milk will be provided for the children in return for a donation of €2 (or whatever you would like to donate). Money raised will be donated to Childline.  The children will need to bring their own bowls and spoons!

C.E.F.

We are delighted to have Brian Donaghy from C.E.F. rejoining us on Thursdays.  We have missed his lively guitar and fun stories.

Harvest Thanksgiving Service

Well done to the children from 1st to 6th Class for singing and performing so well at this morning's Harvest Thanksgiving Service. We also thank all those parents who ensured their children were present and came along to support their children and the school.  On display in the church was a selection of the fruit and vegetables grown in the school organic garden.  Miss McGinley and Miss Johnston did a great job of arranging the display and as always we thank Mr Barnett, without whom we would not be able to keep our garden going.  Pictured are some of the children who came along to school in the summer holidays to help in the garden.
