Cold Weather/Absences
As the forecast is predicting an exceptionally cold spell, please can we ask that all children bring a warm coat and a hat to school over the next few weeks. Our playground can be very cold at times. We are hoping that the weather will not be disruptive to travel but given the number of absences due to illness in recent weeks, please can we also ask that every effort is made to get the children to school every day. We are trying very hard to make up for lost time. Open Afternoon We are now enrolling for September 2018 and are holding our Open Afternoon on Friday 2nd March from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome...those who have already enrolled and those who are still considering the choices for their children. Our school is a warm and friendly place...we are always happy to answer questions and show off what we do. Green Flag Visit We wish 5th and 6th Class luck on Monday as we will be visited by a representative from 'An Taisce' as part of our Green Flag work. As you know, we are working on our 5th flag - Biodiversity and the children have worked hard on this theme for the past 18 months. We will find out in May if we have been successful. World Book Day We will be celebrating World Book Day in school on March 1st. Please take time to ask the children all about it. Book Fair To coincide with World Book Day, the Book Fair will be in school from Thursday 1st March. There is always a great selection of books on offer and school will receive a number of free books. Swimming Thank you for your support of our swimming lessons. We would like to thank Alan Mahon for his help with supervision. Our last lesson will be on Wednesday 28th February. All children completed swimming tests. Drama We are currently working with Zara Holmes on a weekly basis. The children have been taking part in Speech and Drama lessons and hope to hold a small showcase at the end of these lessons. More details to follow. Playground Development We are in the process of developing the grassy area at the back of our playground. As you can imagine, this is a very expensive project and all of our recent and future fundraising money will be used for this. To all the members of the extended Clarke and Dinsmore families, we offer our condolences and extend our sincere sympathy at this sad time.
Happy New Year - we hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas holiday. We are looking forward to seeing the children back at school tomorrow morning and hearing what Santa brought.

A huge amount of work, effort and time went into arranging everything so we thank them very much. Carol Service Thank you also for your support of this year's Carol Service. We hope you enjoyed the children's singing and dancing - they put a lot of effort into getting this performance ready for you. Dates School will close for Christmas on Friday 22nd December and will open again on Monday 8th January. Attendance Our current attendance is 98.5% which is excellent! Thank you for ensuring that the children are in school regularly. We also thank all those parents who ensured their children were present and came along to support their children and the school. On display in the church was a selection of the fruit and vegetables grown in the school organic garden. Miss McGinley and Miss Johnston did a great job of arranging the display and as always we thank Mr Barnett, without whom we would not be able to keep our garden going. Pictured are some of the children who came along to school in the summer holidays to help in the garden. What a lovely morning we had celebrating Harvest. Well done to the children and thank you to all the parents and friends who came along to hear them sing.
