On behalf of everyone in our school community, we would like to extend our sincere sympathy to our former pupil Robert and his partner Shannon and also to Daphne, Winston, Sharon, Amanda, Kyle and the wider family circle. We are truly sorry for your loss. The loss of a child is heartbreaking. We send you our love and heartfelt prayers that you may find the strength you need to get through the days ahead.
As the weather is so nice and it’s the end of Test Week, we thought the children might like a little picnic on Rossnowlagh beach. They have been working exceptionally hard on their tests over the past two weeks and have also been very patient (and quiet!) while other classes were working on theirs.
We will be leaving school around 12 noon on Friday 25th May and returning around 2.30 p.m. If you are able to collect the children from the beach on Friday at 2.15 p.m., it would be much appreciated as we are hoping that the minibus (30 seater) would then only have to make one trip back instead of two. Children may be picked up in the main car park.
As this is the hottest and sunniest part of the day, please make sure the children have adequate hats/sun cream etc. We are not allowed to apply sun cream but are happy to supervise (and advise) children applying it themselves if you want to send some in.
Children may wear their own clothes – please make sure clothes are appropriate for a couple of hours in the sunshine on the beach. We don’t want anyone going home with sunburn.
Children MUST have a refillable bottle. We will fill these from the water cooler in school before we leave. Please send lunch as usual.
Children may leave their schoolbags at home on Friday – please swap them for buckets and spades.
As always, if you have any questions or queries, please let me know.
Green Flag Number 5 was awarded to our school today.
Well done to our Green School Committee and Miss McGinley for their hard work over the past two years. Three of our older children represented our school today at an Award Ceremony in Letterkenny. We thank them for their impeccable behaviour, for stopping for ice-cream for all of us on the way home and for not gloating for too long about their delicious profiteroles.
Congratulations and our best wishes to James, Clint, Adam, Ciara, Alex and Rachel on their Confirmation Day.
I think it's safe to say that we had great fun at our Science Afternoon. All children in school had the opportunity to present their work to the rest of the school. We had a vast range of weird and wonderful experiments and activities. Well done to everyone for their excellent research and presentation skills.

Please make sure there are no absences or morning appointments from Monday May 14th until Friday 24th May.
Brian Donaghy is working with the older children this term. They are using computer coding to programme 'Microbits'.
Thank you for your support of this year's Book Fair. A total of €350 was raised for books for school. We thank Mrs Geraghty and 6th Class for their help in organising this.
We extend our sincere sympathy to the family of Josephine Murphy Devaney. Miss Murphy (as she was known to pupils) had worked in school in various capacities in years past, as a teacher and when undertaking teaching practice.
We would like to say an ENORMOUS THANK YOU to everyone who supported our fundraising 'Coffee Morning and Cake Sale' - by baking for us, calling in for tea or buying some of our cakes and bakes.
Our final total is a fantastic €1450 - all of which will go towards improving the play facilities in our school grounds.
Thank you also to all those parents, staff and friends who helped organise and run this event. Your help is much appreciated.
As the forecast is predicting an exceptionally cold spell, please can we ask that all children bring a warm coat and a hat to school over the next few weeks. Our playground can be very cold at times.
We are hoping that the weather will not be disruptive to travel but given the number of absences due to illness in recent weeks, please can we also ask that every effort is made to get the children to school every day. We are trying very hard to make up for lost time.
We are now enrolling for September 2018 and are holding our Open Afternoon on Friday 2nd March from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome...those who have already enrolled and those who are still considering the choices for their children. Our school is a warm and friendly place...we are always happy to answer questions and show off what we do.
Green Flag Visit
We wish 5th and 6th Class luck on Monday as we will be visited by a representative from 'An Taisce' as part of our Green Flag work. As you know, we are working on our 5th flag - Biodiversity and the children have worked hard on this theme for the past 18 months. We will find out in May if we have been successful.
World Book Day
We will be celebrating World Book Day in school on March 1st. Please take time to ask the children all about it.
To coincide with World Book Day, the Book Fair will be in school from Thursday 1st March. There is always a great selection of books on offer and school will receive a number of free books.
Thank you for your support of our swimming lessons. We would like to thank Alan Mahon for his help with supervision. Our last lesson will be on Wednesday 28th February. All children completed swimming tests.
We are currently working with Zara Holmes on a weekly basis. The children have been taking part in Speech and Drama lessons and hope to hold a small showcase at the end of these lessons. More details to follow.
We are in the process of developing the grassy area at the back of our playground. As you can imagine, this is a very expensive project and all of our recent and future fundraising money will be used for this.
To all the members of the extended Clarke and Dinsmore families, we offer our condolences and extend our sincere sympathy at this sad time.
Happy New Year - we hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas holiday. We are looking forward to seeing the children back at school tomorrow morning and hearing what Santa brought.
