We were unexpectedly visited by an Inspector from the Department of Education on Friday. The Inspector visited all the classrooms to watch the teachers teach and the children learn. The school received extremely positive feedback.
I know that you will join with me in thanking the staff and the children for all their hard work, not just on Friday but each and every school day.
Cheerios Childline Breakfast Morning
Although we are trying hard to raise funds for ourselves this year, we also believe that it is important to support other causes. We will be holding our 'Cheerios Breakfast Together' morning on Friday 10th October. Cereal and milk will be provided for the children in return for a donation of €2 (or whatever you would like to donate) . The children will need to bring their own bowls and spoons!
All proceeds will go directly to Childline. For more information, you can visit their website here.
Harvest
Thank you to Mr Barnett for his onging work in the school garden and harvesting this year's crop. Thank you also to Mrs Gourley for arranging the crops in church for the Harvest Thanksgiving service.
This year's Tree Day is Thursday 9th October. We hope to add to the trees we planted last year.
Drama Workshops
For the next 8 weeks, all children in school will be taking part in weekly Drama Workshops with Louise, the Education Officer from the Balor Theatre. The aim of these workshops is to complement the English Curriculum with the emphasis on developing oral language skills and using drama to support the narrative element of writing.
Glenveagh National Park
The children in the Senior Room will be visiting Glenveagh National Park on Wednesday 8th October. The bus will leave school at 8.45 a.m. Warm and waterproof clothes will be needed.
Unihoc
We look forward to seeing everyone in the Community Centre at 5 p.m. on Wednesday 15th October.
C.E.F.
We are delighted to have Brian Donaghy from C.E.F. rejoining us on Thursdays. We have missed his lively guitar and fun stories.
Parent Teacher Meetings
We hope to hold our Parent Teacher Meetings on Tuesday 21st October. Please be aware that some teachers may see parents before and after school on other days. We hope to send home dates and times before the end of this week.
The children may dress in costume or in their own clothes on Friday 24th October for a donation of €2 to school funds. Friday 24th October will be our last day before our half-term break. School will close at 3 p.m. and will open again at 9.20 a.m. on Monday 3rd November.
