Unihoc

We thank Muriel, Ezra and all those who helped to make this year's Unihoc such a success and so much fun for all the children.

Pictured here are the Junior Infants at the medal ceremony.  There are lots more photographs in the Gallery.
It was not well publicised on Budget Day but our grant for running the school was reduced by another 1% this year.  This now provides us with less than a euro per child per day to maintain the school and educate the children.

Your support of fundraising events is therefore much appreciated.

Quiz Sheets

We thank Nan Leslie for organising this year's Quiz Sheets.  We have sent home a number of sheets for each family to sell.  Completed sheets may be returned to school.

Hallowe'en

The children may dress in costume or in their own clothes on Friday 24th October for a donation of €2 to school funds.  Friday 24th October will be our last day before our half-term break. School will close at 3 p.m. and will open again at 9.20 a.m. on Monday 3rd November.

Visit

The children and staff were delighted to see Mrs Patterson on Tuesday and even more delighted to see baby Jorja who was looking very cute in her little cow babygro.  Mum and baby are getting on very well and so far, Jorja is being a very good baby.  Thank you for all the good wishes and enquiries - we have passed them on to Mrs Patterson.

Congratulations

We send our warmest congratulations to Ian and Michala Cunningham who were married recently and we wish them many happy years together.

Shoeboxes

Shoeboxes for this year's appeal should be returned to school before Monday 4th November.

Condolences

We send our condolences to the McCafferty family on their recent bereavement.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Thank you all for your support of these meetings.  It sends a very positive message to the children when they see their Mums and Dads take such an interest in how they are getting on at school.

Our entrance hall is looking particularly nice right now...if a little frightening! Please take the time to pop in and have a look at the children's work on display.

There are also plenty of other pictures on Mrs Gourley's, Miss Browne's and Mrs Somerville's class pages.

We send our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Mrs Gourley and her husband Alister. We look forward to the safe arrival of baby Gourley in spring.
Inspector's Visit

We were unexpectedly visited by an Inspector from the Department of Education on Friday.  The Inspector visited all the classrooms to watch the teachers teach and the children learn.  The school received extremely positive feedback.
I know that you will join with me in thanking the staff and the children for all their hard work, not just on Friday but each and every school day.

Cheerios Childline Breakfast Morning

Although we are trying hard to raise funds for ourselves this year, we also believe that it is important to support other causes.  We will be holding our 'Cheerios Breakfast Together' morning on Friday 10th October.  Cereal and milk will be provided for the children in return for a donation of €2 (or whatever you would like to donate) .  The children will need to bring their own bowls and spoons!

All proceeds will go directly to Childline.  For more information, you can visit their website here.

Harvest

Thank you to Mr Barnett for his onging work in the school garden and harvesting this year's crop. Thank you also to Mrs Gourley for arranging the crops in church for the Harvest Thanksgiving service.

Tree Day

This year's Tree Day is Thursday 9th October.  We hope to add to the trees we planted last year.

Drama Workshops

For the next 8 weeks, all children in school will be taking part in weekly Drama Workshops with Louise, the Education Officer from the Balor Theatre.  The aim of these workshops is to complement the English Curriculum with the emphasis on developing oral language skills and using drama to support the narrative element of writing.

Glenveagh National Park

The children in the Senior Room will be visiting Glenveagh National Park on Wednesday 8th October.  The bus will leave school at 8.45 a.m.  Warm and waterproof clothes will be needed.

Unihoc

We look forward to seeing everyone in the Community Centre at 5 p.m. on Wednesday 15th October.

C.E.F.

We are delighted to have Brian Donaghy from C.E.F. rejoining us on Thursdays.  We have missed his lively guitar and fun stories.

Parent Teacher Meetings

We hope to hold our Parent Teacher Meetings on Tuesday 21st October.  Please be aware that some teachers may see parents before and after school on other days.  We hope to send home dates and times before the end of this week.
Hallowe'en

The children may dress in costume or in their own clothes on Friday 24th October for a donation of €2 to school funds.  Friday 24th October will be our last day before our half-term break. School will close at 3 p.m. and will open again at 9.20 a.m. on Monday 3rd November.
