Putting on the Ritz!

What a fun evening!  I hope everyone enjoyed the energetic dance routines and the music.  It was great to see such a crowd and so many having fun by dressing in costume.

A huge well done to our brave parents who, after all the months of practice, were superb - both in their own Charleston Dance and in the finale 'Thriller' dance.  I am sure you will all agree that they all looked absolutely great. There will be lots more photographs in the papers this week.  Have a look out for them.

There are so many people to thank for helping make the evening such a success and so in no particular order, we say thank you to:

  • Shona and the cast of the 'Putting on the Ritz' show for their months of practice and for so selflessly allowing the proceeds of all their hard work to be donated to school;
  • Andrew Monk for compèring and providing the music afterwards.  There were still many people having fun on the dance floor in the early hours;
  • All those who helped with the staging, music and props;
  • The parents who danced in the show for all their patience, enthusiasm and time. You did us proud!
  • Mark O'Connell for spending so much of his time patiently teaching everyone the dances and for never complaining when they had to be demonstrated over and over and over again.
  • Francess O'Connell for publicising the event and Stephen Anderson who did such a good interview on the radio last week;
  • Our sponsors - both those who donated raffle prizes and those who offered cash donations. We particularly thank one sponsor who wished to remain anonymous for a very large donation towards the costs of staging the show;
  • All our hairdressers and make up artists who did such a fantastic job of getting everyone ready;
  • Noel Keating for his help with videoing the event;
  • The members of the P.T.A. for organising and running the event, and especially the Sub-Committee for all their hard work;
  • All those who helped at the show - collecting tickets, selling raffle tickets and conducting the raffle;
  • Everyone who has helped sell tickets and publicise the event;
  • Cathrena for everything...too many things to list individually;
  • The teaching staff for their help and support over the past few months with the St. Patrick's Day Parade, the children's video and help at the event;
  • And finally, to everyone who has supported this fundraiser through ticket sales and by coming along on the night.  Without such a great audience, the night would not have been such a success.

Putting on the Ritz

We are very much looking forward to seeing our valiant group of parents perform as part of the show 'Putting on the Ritz" on Saturday night.  I know they have been practising almost every night in the last fortnight as well as twice a week for the past few months.  It promises to be a very entertaining evening.  I just wish to remind everyone that because of the hotel licensing laws children are not allowed to attend.

We hope that many of the audience will dress up - I have headbands and trilby hats in school if anyone would like to borrow something for the night.

We also thank those who helped sell tickets in Kees on Saturday 4th April.  A total of €345 was raised.

Bag Packing

We are still looking for some help with bag packing on Saturday 2nd May so if you can help for an hour or two, please let us know.

Educational Visits

The children in the Senior Room will be visiting Donegal Education Centre on Wednesday 22nd April as part of their history curriculum work

They will also be visiting Cathleen's Falls Hydro-electricity Power Station on May 5th.

School Tours

The Junior School Tour will take place on Thursday 28th May.

The Senior School Tour will take place on Friday 22nd May.

More details to follow shortly.

Walkability Audit - Green Flag news

As part of our work for our next Green Flag (Travel), the children in the Senior Room took part in a 'Walkability' activity on Wednesday.  The aim of the walk was to identify suitable places around the village where parents could park and then walk the remaining journey to school.  (See pictures in the Gallery)

Two suitable locations were identified and the children walked both routes assessing their safety and suitability for walking.  One location is the Community Centre for those on the Laghey side of the village.  The other is the car park beside the playground for those on the Ballyshannon side of the village.

To launch our 'Park and Stride' initiative, we are going to hold a 'Walk to school on Wednesday' event on Wednesday 13th May.  More details will be sent home in the next week. We hope that everyone will support the event.

Clean up

We have registered to take part in the National Spring Clean initiative.  If there are any parents who would like to help out with this, please let us know.  We will initially be clearing litter around the immediate school area.

Book Fair

The Book Fair will be in school from Wednesday 3rd June.

Pilates

The children are continuing their weekly sessions of Pilates on Tuesday afternoons.

Sympathy

We extend our sympathies to Mrs Geraghty and to Mrs McMorrow on their recent bereavements.

Thank you

We thank Ezra Mitchell for all the work done in the school grounds over the Easter holidays.
