About Us

The Robertson National School is situated in Ballintra, Co. Donegal. We are a four teacher school under Church of Ireland patronage. More information on our school can be found in the Parents' section of this website.

The History of the Robertson National School

The Robertson School in Ballintra was opened on the 9th September, 1889.  It replaced a previous school which had operated in Ballintra since 1783.  Nothing is known about the previous school.

The Robertson School was a two-storey building with the Principal’s residence below and the classrooms above.

Around 1900, it was reconstructed as a one-storey building.

In 1962, the school was modernised in order to provide running water, central heating and a play shelter.  The Reverend Magee officiated at the opening.

In 1973, it became a three teacher school so a prefabricated classroom was added.

The school was extended in the 1980’s, replacing the prefab with another classroom.

Our current building took over a year to complete and we celebrated our official opening on 13th May, 2006.
