The Constitution of the Robertson National School Parent/Teacher Association
The Name of the Association shall be the Robertson National School Parent Teacher Association.
Purpose/Aims
- To represent parents’ views
- To inform parents of developments in education and in the school
- To foster co-operation between parents, teachers and the Board of Management
- To assist with the provision of extra equipment and extra teaching aids
Membership
- All parents/guardians of children attending and teachers of the Robertson National School are deemed to be members of the Parents Association.
Meetings
- An Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall be held each year in the Autumn Term.
- Meetings shall be held at least once a term and a quorum of ten persons must be present to hold a meeting.
Committee
- The Committee shall consist of 6 members plus two elected parents on the Board of Management. The elected Committee members can deal with urgent matters but must have a quorum of four.
Committee Members
- Chairperson - Will chair all meetings of the Association.
- Vice-Chairperson - Chair meetings in the absence of the Chairperson.
- Secretary -
- Notify members of meetings.
- Record accurately minutes of all meetings.
- Deal with all written correspondence.
- Prepare the agenda for each meeting.
- Assistant Secretary - Acts as Secretary in the absence of same.
- Treasurer - Keep accounts of the Association.
- Assistant Treasurer - Assist the Treasurer and countersign cheques.
- The elected Parent Representatives of the Board of Management will be automatic members of the Committee.
Finance
- An account shall be opened in the name of the Robertson National School Parent Teacher Association. The Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer, following approval by the Committee, shall sign each cheque. Expenses shall include stationary, postage; telephone calls, travelling expenses, insurance and presentations.
Liaison with School Authorities
- Liaison with School shall normally be maintained through correspondence with the Secretary, or by deputation with the Principal of the School.
Other
- The Association recognises that the resolution of problems relating to individual pupils or parents will be determined by the pupil and/or their parents and the School Authorities.
- The Association also recognises that matters concerning the School Curriculum and its implementation are the function of the School Authorities.
